Parent Update - OPEN MORNING 2019

Last Saturday Worle Community School opened its doors for our Open Morning. Young people (along with their families) from local primary schools were invited to join us to look around our school and enjoy a free breakfast in our modern restaurant.

The sun was shining as we opened our gates to our visitors for what was a most enjoyable morning. Families were equipped with a map and encouraged to visit our departments at their leisure. Each department ran activities which gave students a taste of what's on offer when they arrive at ‘big school”.

Loud bangs, whizzes and crackles could be heard coming from the science labs where staff were displaying some lively experiments. Delicious smells were coming from Mrs Burrow’s kitchen where she had made cakes for our young visitors to ice.

The English and maths teams showcased their departments by setting challenges for our young visitors to take part in. Our Learning Resource Centre was open with our Librarian encouraging the children to take part in some reading challenges. She also handed out bookmarks and free books to keep them reading over the summer holidays.

Our modern foreign languages teachers were on hand to answer questions and Miss Miller helped students to make a key ring as a keep sake in art. In geography, the families found out about the fantastic trips that are on offer to students during their years as a student at WCSA.

The PE department put on an impressive Gymnastic display whilst a football match was played on the astro turf.

The atmosphere around school was relaxed; the music department entertained us from the Bandstand and our guests also enjoyed a complimentary ice cream.

Worle Community School students are immensely proud to be a part of their school; many volunteered to help staff at this event by playing in the band, taking part in the sports activities or being there to answer questions from our many visitors.

One of our Year 10 boys, Shay McGill, did an amazing job as our official photographer, as you can see!

The school’s formal Open Evening will take place on Thursday 19th September, where parents have a chance to take a guided tour of our school and to hear talks from our CEO, Mr Neville Coles, and our Principal, Miss Jacqui Scott.
