WCSA inspire next generation of scientists, marine biologists, engineers and mathematicians

Worle Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset has purchased radioactive sources with thousands of pounds of grant money to enhance the teaching of Radioactivity in their GCSE science studies.

They already have cutting edge equipment and inspirional teachers for their science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects (STEM).

The latest funding was secured from the National Grid’s Hinkley Connection Project Education Fund. 

Director of Science Louise Daniels said: “We are so thrilled to have access to these radioactive sources when we are teaching about radioactivity in our lessons.

“Our passion is to encourage our students at Worle to take an interest in STEM subjects and be the next generation of Engineers.”

Louise added: “This opens up so many more doors for learning. We aim to teach lessons that encourage our students to interpret the scientific ideas that are connected to radiation.

“We want our students to be able to apply their scientific ideas to real life situations where radiation and radioactivity are involved.”

The academy has excellent departments of science and maths, alongside a superb science curriculum.
