The Priory Learning Trust in Somerset introduced its Reading Programme to further encourage a love for reading for its 4 to 18 year olds and the scheme is working brilliantly.
Students at Worle Community School Academy, Priory Community School Academy and The King Alfred School Academy all read for at least twenty minutes every day.
And pupils at their primary schools, St Anne’s Church Academy, Castle Batch Primary School Academy and Pawlett Primary School Academy also read at every opportunity.
This week Worle Year students Izzy, April, Summer (pictured left to right) were reading in the library which is kitted out with thousands of books.
And a new library area was opened at Castle Batch, with CEO Neville Coles reading stories to four year old pupils.
He said: “Reading is clearly really important for effective learning. I am thrilled to see our students and pupils reading quality books across the board.
“The Priory Learning Trust is committed to the daily reading programme in all our schools.
“It is so important to get children reading and loving reading early and it’s especially key to make sure that this love transmits into the secondary sector.”
Castle Batch Primary School Academy has two very comfortable big chairs as the centrepiece alongside a brand-new library area along with hundreds of exciting books.
The pupils are already enjoying reading classic children’s books such as The Gruffalo, Monkey Puzzle, and The Knight who wouldn’t Fight, in the new area known as the ‘Cosy Corner’.
The area has super comfy cushions, bean bags, excellent lighting and rug, all funded by Friends of Castle Batch.
Eventually, when phase three is completed, an entire class can enjoy reading all together.
