Thomas, 16, of Worle Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset is officially one of Britain’s best mathematicians.

He has just achieved full marks in the Intermediate Maths Challenge competition and has been invited to take part in the prestigious Maclaurin Olympiad.

To achieve full marks in the competition is exceptionally rare, with only a few students doing so nationally each year. This achievement follows Thomas' string of previous successes in the competition during his time at Worle.

Thomas is lining up Exeter Maths School as his next option where he will continue his studies in the subject as well as completing other A levels.

Head of Mathematics Sean Wood said, 'Since Year 7 Thomas has amazed us with his fantastic problem solving skills; he has achieved great results every year in the Maths Challenge and remarkably has managed to raise the bar even further with every year that has passed. To achieve 100% in this year's competition is outstanding and is a fitting way to top off his time competing in the competition at Worle. I wish him every success with his future endeavours and I know he has a very bright future ahead of him'.

Thomas was one of numerous students at Worle Community School Academy who have been awarded a Gold, Silver or Bronze certificate in the competition this year.

Out of 700,000 students who take part nationally, the Year 9, 10 and 11 students have been thriving in the maths challenges with many going forward to the national finals along with Thomas.
