An update from the Principal 24th April 2020

I am writing this at the end of a full week back in the virtual sense. Thank you for getting your children back to schooling, whether it has been via Google Classroom, the website or using the multitude of resources that are now available to us online. We know that WCSA students are working really hard. We are keen to recognise the hard work that it going on (very often, over and above). We have produced a certificate for each subject; I know that many students will aim to collect all TEN certificates to complete the collection! Teachers will nominate students for success and certificates will go out in the post will go out on a Friday. Please look out for these landing on your door mat on Saturday morning. There is NO LIMIT on the amount we will send out. Teachers will nominate as many students as they see fit.

I have received a few emails regarding “feedback”. We do want teachers to acknowledge the work being completed, but cannot operate our normal system. So, to ensure that students remain motivated and encouraged to complete their schooling at home, we have given out the message below to all of our teaching staff:

In these unprecedented times, following regular routines and habits can help us all to maintain good mental health. Education comes in many forms and it is not for us to dictate how families negotiate these unchartered waters. The only thing we insist on is that students are set appropriate work in all subjects and that there is the opportunity for feedback on any work completed.

That is not to say that all completed work should be marked, but acknowledged and effort rewarded. Learning points may, of course be offered at the teacher’s discretion. It is important to note that staff and students alike are living with the possibility of self-isolation, shielding and illness and we cannot, and do not, expect normal working practice.

Students may send work to teachers for recognition via google classrooms and/or through email and photographs. Teachers will respond via email, google classroom etc. with feedback acknowledging receipt. In addition, students going over and above will be rewarded weekly with certificates posted home.

Please do feedback to me via email. Equally, I am always happy to talk to parents on the phone. I appreciate the huge joined up effort that has taken place to truly put students first.
