Welcome Back – Term 3 – January 6 2020
Happy New Year!
I hope that you have all had a peaceful Christmas with your families and friends. Personally, I enjoyed making the most of the mild weather to get plenty of walking in.
It was great to see so much going on at the end of last term. My highlight is always the Christmas music, and this year did not fail to disappoint. It’s great to see such a variety, from the boys’ rock group to classical singing, the orchestra and the student-conducted choir. I have been talking to Mrs Davies about the next school production. Although I want to reveal the new show right now, I must leave it to Mrs Davies! You will not be disappointed!
Our Year 7 boys’ Football team made it to the last 16 in a national competition. It was also a pleasure to watch some of the action, including a goal! Beating Torquay Grammar School, the team are now through to the quarter finals. Picked up by the Weston Mercury in the Sports Section, it is incredible to have such talent in the school.
Term 3 is always a busy term. We expect a lot from our Year 11s as they prepare for their GCSEs. It may feel cold and bleak now, but those summer months are on it before we know it; exam season! Last term, one of our ex-Year 11 students came back to WCSA to talk to the Year 11s in assembly about the importance of getting English and Maths at Grade 4+. A hard working, diligent student who is thoroughly enjoying her college course. She explained to us, in assembly, that having to re-sit maths GCSE alongside her course was a real bind. It is so much easier to get English and Maths at school when there is so much extra help available.
Please do remember that we expect students to be fully equipped. We will be supplying equipment – free of charge – in the first week. After that, we expect all students to carry their equipment so that they are ready to learn for every lesson. Equipment checks are carried out regularly to ensure that standards are high. Similarly, with homework, we check weekly. Mr. Pickles is in charge of homework and organises the detentions for those not completing on a regular basis. Please do get in touch if you have any questions about homework or how we can support you at home. It’s not always easy to get children to reveal what homework they have and when! Our entire homework program is published on our website and teachers are always happy to help. Some parents like to have their own set of homework books at home so they can support their children. Do let us know if you’d like to have a set to assist.
