Parent Update - Welcome Back to Term 6 from the Principal

I would like to welcome you back to the final term of the year; Term 6. It is a long term – please do note that we do not break up until Wednesday 24 July. The last Monday and Tuesday are “Curriculum Enrichment Days”. We will be covering some key areas of the curriculum, as well as offering cultural opportunities – I know that everyone has now signed up for activities where there is an element of choice. I am aware how many students are proud holders of the prestigious 100% attendance award. Please do note term dates when booking holidays.

As your children return to school, I must tell you that some of our students have not really had a break! Many of our Year 11s came in during half term for final prep for GCSEs. If you do not have a child (or sibling) in Year 11, exam season may have passed you by! However, I do need to mention, in this update, the hard work of both students and teachers at this time. We are absolutely committed to all students leaving WCSA with the best qualifications they can. We know how much the basics (English and Maths) can shape a young person’s future. I was proud to see so many students benefitting from the sessions that we put on.

As part of our work here at WCSA, we are keen to support our local charities. This year, students in all year groups have worked hard to raise money for our school charity “Weston Hospice Care”. On Sunday 2 June, there was a huge effort by TPLT staff and indeed some students who took part in the Mendip Challenge (proceeds going to this charity). I managed the 10 mile walk and think I spotted some parents along the way. It really did feel good to be part of such a great team effort. We are so fortunate to live in this part of the country; the views were beautiful on such a sunny Sunday.

Of course, this term is our transition term. We start to welcome in our new Year 7 cohort. I am personally looking forward to meeting new students and their parents when I complete my 1:1s in June. This is also an opportunity for us to recruit new parents for our “Parents’ / Carers’ Forum”. Do remember – we would love to hear your voice. We have a small, but dedicated team of parents / carers who loyally turn up each term to share their views with us. We would really love to grow this team. We are committed to hearing the voice of our stakeholders. Your child may even be on the school council. This will meet in Term 6. We have already taken on the views of students, particularly in relation to recycling. We have improved our recycling facilities tremendously.

There are other key dates in Term 6 which are listed below. Please do get in touch if I can be of help at all; I do enjoy meeting parents.

Best wishes,

Jacqui Scott

Principal
