Parent Update – Monday 24 June Principal’s Update

We are busy as always here at WCSA. Our Year 11s have departed and we are thoroughly looking forward to the Prom on Friday 28 June. Next week’s update will be dedicated to this event, so please do have a read. There will be plenty of pictures. Every year we are blown away by the dresses and suits, not to mention the style in which students arrive!

So, it’s time to welcome new students and families.  The first week in July sees us welcome our Year 6 for their annual transition visit. We also welcome parents in the evening to give out important information as well as an opportunity to meet tutors. If you are a Year 6 parent reading this, please get in touch if you need any further information about this evening. We have sent out letters and reminders. We have also enjoyed meeting the Year 6s for the 1:1 interviews which were ongoing throughout June. My summation would be that we have a lot of musicians and footballers coming and most Year 6 I spoke to just love maths!

Then, of course, there are all of the Year 5 children who will need to make their choices for secondary school! We are keen to help you make an informed choice, so we open our school on two occasions for you to have a really good look around, as well as talking to our super staff. Our Open Morning is on Saturday 6 July (see the flier below). If you can’t make that date, or want to look again, our Open Evening is Thursday 19 September. However, here at WCSA, we believe that every day is an Open Day. I am always happy to show parents around during the day when lessons are live… please contact us at WCSA.

There is a lot I love about WCSA. However, what I like most are the students. They never ever cease to amaze me with their passion and creativity. I was honoured to meet “Climate Justice Revolution” last week. These amazing students are passionate about looking after our climate and taking practical action daily, here at WCSA.

You can follow them on Twitter: @CJR_WCSA

I also thoroughly enjoy meeting Students of the Week. Every week, one of the Heads of Year nominates a group of their year group to be “Students of the Week”. This week, it was the turn of Mr Donaldson – Head of Year 9. I really enjoy meeting the students who get things right day in, day out. We have a drink and a chocolate bar and give out “Student of the Week” badges. As students get nominated a second (and third) time, we change the colour of the badge.

Finally, please can I remind you of term dates (detailed below). We don’t finish until lunchtime on Wednesday 24 July. On the Monday and Tuesday of the final week we have two Curriculum Enrichment Days . These days give students a fantastic opportunity to get involved in some really interesting activities before the long summer holiday starts! All students have signed up and we can remind you of activities on the day. Remember – attendance is important. We reward students with high levels of attendance. Keep going until the end – six weeks are a long time!
